Stephen Gogolev has been nominated as the Core Power Athlete of the Month for December following a Golden performance at ISU Grand Prix Final in Vancouver, BC.
Following his gold medal performance at his first ISU Grand Prix event earlier this fall in Slovakia, Stephen aimed high again during the ISU Grand Prix Final, skating his free skate to the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack.
Overcoming a fall during his opening quad Lutz, Gogolev refocused to land his quad toe and the quad Salchow, in combination with a triple toe to accumulate a total score of 233.58 points ahead of Silver Russian skater with 218.75 points.
“I can’t believe it yet, that I won this competition.” Gogolev said. “I learned that you need to work on everything.”
Stephen has been identified within the OHPSI program by Skate Ontario since 2015 and has worked closely with several integrated support team members, most recently including; Therapist, Meghan Buttle and Physiologist, Elton Fernandes to monitor training loads to help prevent injury and illness.
On behalf of the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario and Core Power, we would like to congratulate Stephen, his coaches and his support team on an incredible international performance and a very notable season to date!
Stephen’s next major event will be at the 2019 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in Harbour Station, Saint John, NB from January 14-20, 2019.
We wish Stephen and other Ontario Skaters well leading into this performance and encourage you to follow our Ontario athletes’ performance at the following link: https://skatecanada.ca/2019-canadian-tire-national-skating-championships/
