CSIO Affiliated Athletes Excel at 2019 Parapan Am Games

TORONTO (September 6, 2019) – Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) would like to congratulate Team Canada on a successful 2019 Parapan Am Games in Lima, Peru. The Canadian Team delivered captivating performances, bringing home 60 medals – 17 Gold, 21 Silver, 22 Bronze.

Team Canada finished 6th in the medal standings by Gold medal and by number of total medals.

The 36 Ontario athletes at the Games won a total of 17 medals – 5 Gold, 6 Silver, 6 Bronze.

CSIO affiliated athletes are a large contingent of the Canadian athletes bringing home the hardware with 29 medals – 9 Gold, 9 Silver, 11 Bronze. CSIO affiliated athletes won 49% of Team Canada’s medals!

 

BY THE NUMBERS

151 Team Canada Athletes = 60 medals

36 Ontario Athletes = 17 medals

57 CSIO Affiliated Athletes = 29 medals

28 OHPSI Athletes = 4 medals (all in team sports)

  • In the pool, CSIO affiliated athletes are bringing home a combined 21 medals, led by multi-medallists Nicholas Bennett (4), Arianna Hunsicker (5), Tyson MacDonald (3), Angela Marina (3), and Krystal Shaw (4).
  • Canada dominated in team sports winning medals in all 7 events: Wheelchair Basketball (M) - Silver; Wheelchair Basketball (W) - Gold; Wheelchair Rugby - Silver; Sitting Volleyball (M) - Bronze; Sitting Volleyball (W) - Bronze; Goalball (M) - Bronze; Goalball (W) - Bronze
  • Canada’s Women’s and Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Teams qualified a spot each for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics
