Three Canadian beach volleyball teams qualified for the main draw of the Sao Paulo Grand Slam on Tuesday in Brazil.

On the men’s side, Grant O’Gorman (Scarborough, ON) and Sam Pedlow (Barrie, ON) beat the Austrian team of Dressler-Kunert (22-24, 22-24). Comox, British Columbia’s Maverick Hatch and Christian Redmann of Oro Station, ON, also qualified after a 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) win over Del Coto and Bianchi of Argentina.

Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter, both of Richmond Hill, Ontario, fell to an Italian team 14-21, 17-21.

Canada also had one women’s team entered today: it took three sets (21-16, 20-22, 15-12), but Jamie Broder of Victoria, BC, and Kristina Valjas of Toronto won over a Russian team (Moiseeva-Syrtseva) to move forward at this event.
