Canadian CanoeKayak Team set to go for World Championships

DUISBURG, GERMANY - CanoeKayak Canada’s 31-athlete team is set to compete at its first World Championships in Duisburg, Germany from August 28 to September 1.

The finals of the 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships will be televised on Sportsnet, CanoeKayak Canada’s official broadcast partner.

CanoeKayak is one of Canada’s top performing summer sports with a total of 24 Olympic medals have been won in the sport since 1936.

Adam van Koeverden (Oakville, ON) - four-time Olympic medalist
Mark de Jonge (Halifax, NS) - Olympic bronze medalist, K1 200
Mark Oldershaw (Burlington, ON) - Olympic bronze medalist, C1 1000
Laurence Vincent-Lapointe (Trois-Rivieres, QC) - four-time World Champion in Women’s Canoe
Christine Gauthier (Pointe-Claire, QC) - four-time World Champion in Paracanoe
Dave Waters (Fox Pointe, NS) - Paracanoe World bronze medalist
Michelle Russell (Waverley, NS) - U23 World Champion (K1 200) and bronze medalist (K1 500)
Jason McCoombs (Dartmouth, NS) - U23 World silver medalist
