SOCHI, Russia - Canada’s National Sledge Team has won the gold medal at the Four Nations Tournament, defeating Norway 5-0 in Sunday’s gold medal game at Shayba Arena. The tournament was a test event for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, which take place Mar. 7-16 at the same venue.

Canada had a perfect 5-0 record through the tournament, including preliminary round wins over the Czech Republic (3-1), Norway (5-1) and Russia (4-3 shootout), and a 2-1 victory over the Russians in the semifinals.

On Sunday, Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) led the way with a pair of goals, and Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) had a goal and two assists for the Canadians. Marc Dorion (Bourget, Ont.) and Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) also scored, while Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) made four saves for the shutout and was named the tournament’s top goaltender. It is the second straight major tournament win for Canada, after winning the gold medal at the 2013 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship last April in Goyang, South Korea.

“Our team worked hard and overcame adversity in this tournament,” said Mike Mondin, head coach of Canada’s National Sledge Team. “This was a terrific event for us to participate in as we prepare for the Paralympics here in March, and we look forward to returning next spring.”
