John is the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario’s Director of Business Development. In his role, John defines and develops strategic goals for Business Development and Communications in line with CSIO’s overall strategic context. Additionally, he identifies new revenue generation opportunities that enhance and promote CSIO’s mission, vision and values. John also assists in both providing overall leadership and direction for the CSIO in the design and implementation of their strategic plan, as well as the management of key CSIO partners and stakeholders.
Prior to working with the CSIO, John was the Head Coach and Director of Swimming for the Toronto Swim Club. After taking over that role in 1994, John’s leadership helped TSC grow from a small community club of 30 members into one of the top swim clubs in Canada with membership approaching 300. Over John’s 17 year coaching career, he trained athletes to become national champions, national record holders and onto National and Olympic teams. In addition to his role with the Toronto Swim Club, John coached many Canadian National and Provincial Teams at various international competitions. As a former competitive swimmer, John was a national medalist and Canadian University All-Canadian.
John also taught high school Phys-Ed, Geography and Civics for 10 years in the Toronto District School Board. He has worked at 4 Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and most recently at the 2015 Pan and Parapan Am Games for CTV and CBC in television production for the coverage of swimming.
