A multi-year investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation in support of Youth-Driven Development.
Ottawa (ON), July 22, 2013 - Motivate Canada announces the expansion of the ACTIVATE Youth Leadership Program with support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation over 3 years. ACTIVATE Ontario, a relatively new initiative in its second year, seeks to engage and train teams of youth sport leaders to play an active role in increasing sport participation, self-esteem, and leadership of youth in their school and community.
Today’s announcement includes the call for applications for the ACTIVATE Ontario Leadership Training Summit, which will take place from September 20-22 in Ottawa. The weekend training session - which will include workshops on project planning, team-building, sport programming, and physical literacy - will certify youth leaders as ACTIVATORS in their community. By partnering with a school or youth-serving organization in their community and completing the Training Summit, teams of ACTIVATORS will be
eligible to receive up to $1000 in funding to apply toward developing their own action project in their community.
“The expectation is that ACTIVATORS will use the knowledge and training they’ve received to create community sport or physical activity projects based on Motivate Canada’s Youth-Driven Development framework,” says ACTIVATE Program Manager, Zach Hayes. “Through these projects, teams of youth leaders will inspire their peers to realize their potential through sport, physical activity, goal-setting, and how to improve their lives and the lives of others.”
The fee for an individual applicant to attend the ACTIVATE Ontario Training Summit in September is only $200. All other costs such as meals, travel, and accommodations are subsidized. Interested youth should apply online at www.motivatecanada.ca/activate/apply The application deadline is August 4, 2013 at
Since its inception in 2004, the ACTIVATE program has hosted 12 Leadership Forums at national and regional levels. Now, Ontario schools and youth leaders have the opportunity to take ownership of this program by creating their own projects, including local leadership forums, using the framework Motivate Canada has developed over the past decade.
