Using Acute and Chronic Workload to Adjust Training Programs

Acute and chronic workload ratios have been shown to be predictive of injury. This presentation will discuss the process of collecting training load data, calculating acute and chronic workload ratios and using that information to make decisions on training load both in sport practices and S&C sessions.

This presentation will discuss the challenges and solutions for developing a testing and monitoring program in the Canadian University system.
Monitoring the Force Velocity Curve

In power sports finding the right balance between high load strength training and high-speed strength training is critical. By monitoring the force velocity relationship for each athlete, individual programs can be developed and adjusted based on the adaptations to training and the needs of the athlete at any point in the season. This presentation will discuss methods of monitoring the force velocity curve and provide insights on programming using the results.
Improving Compliance to Athlete Self-Monitoring Questionnaires (ASMQ)

Athlete self monitoring is an inexpensive and efficient method of gathering data on sleep, recovery, and training load. While self monitoring can be useful, it requires athlete compliance. This presentation will provide recommendations and examine the role of frequency, length, and structure of the questionnaire as well as feedback, coach buy in, athlete age and the nature of the sport on compliance to ASMQs.
Evolution of Athletics Canada’s Testing and Monitoring Program

Testing and Monitoring programs grow and change. Tests that no longer provide valuable and actionable information are discarded and replaced by new tests and measures that provide the information needed to solve performance problems. This keeps a testing and monitoring program relevant and of greater value to coaches and athletes. This presentation will discuss how the testing and monitoring program used in Athletics Canada has grown and changed over the years.
Monitoring and Tracking in a Decentralized Program

National and Provincial sport organizations are often faced with a scenario where athletes spend a large portion of the year decentralized playing University, College or at a professional level. Tracking the performance and fitness of these athletes is crucial to the planning and programming of the National of Provincial program. This presentation will discuss the process of monitoring decentralized athletes and how to effectively bring S&C coaches for school or professional programs into a performance team so that the athlete can perform well in multiple programs.
